ALL THE BROKEN PIECES, by Ann E. Burg

Can something so broken ever be fixed?

Matt is not your typical middle-school kid.  It’s 1977, and Matt is a refugee from VietNam, where his mother put him on a helicopter and sent him away from the horrifying realities of war.  But it’s not that easy to leave other things behind … his nightmares of bombs falling, his memories of his shattered family, his knowledge that his father abandoned them.   Can all the good things about his new home – loving family, music, baseball – ever get him over the awful things in his past?
