HOW TO STEAL A DOG, by Barbara O’Connor

Georgina has a plan to make everything better...

Everything changed when Georgina’s father walked out – now she, her brother, and her mom are living in their car, washing up in public restrooms, and trying to figure out how to keep things together.  Georgina just wants life to get back to normal – and she convinces herself that if she steals a dog, then collects a reward for it, the family will have enough money for a deposit on a place to live.

So she makes careful plans about stealing and hiding the dog.  The only thing she doesn’t plan on is her own conscience.  She’s pretty sure that the lady who owns the dog would be willing to pay a lot of money for its return … only she’s wrong about that too.  What can she do, with her conscience bothering her and a “lost” dog pining for its owner?  Could things ever get back to normal after all?
