THE BOY WHO DARED, by Susan Campbell Bartoletti

He was willing to die for what he believed

He was willing to die for what he believed

Here is the true story of Helmuth Hubener, a German teenager during World War II.  Although members of his family are Nazis, Helmuth comes to realize that the German people aren’t being told the truth by those in charge.  Listening to a smuggled radio, he hears details of the war and of the terrible things happening in his country that ordinary Germans don’t know.  Helmuth decides to start an underground newspaper that will tell the truth, and he gets his friends to help him distribute it.

Called a “novel” because the author has made up conversations that move the story forward, this is an inspiring true story of a boy who believed in something enough to be willing to die for it.
